Many parents who send their kids off to public schools assume that their children will receive a good education and neglect to critique the public school system or consider other options. Although public schools do offer children at least a basic education, they do come with many disadvantages. Plus, you may be looking for more than just a basic education for your child.
Although most people think that socialization is a benefit of the public schooling system, it in fact, is not. Although attending public school exposes children to other children of varied ages, most school children only interact with kids in their class, or at most kids who are in the same grade level as them. School kids get little opportunity to interact with kids of other ages. Actually, often when they come across younger kids, they tease or bully them. At the same time, they spend a lot of effort trying to avoid older kids, so that they will not be bullied and teased themselves. As for adults, school kids rarely interact with them. On the other hand, a homeschooling environment brings in a more natural social environment and provides children with more varied opportunities for social interaction.
Sending your children to public school is the easy option, but if you care to put a little more thought and effort into your children’s education, you will probably realize that public schools have many downfalls. Homeschooling may be a good alternative and a feasible way to avoid the downfalls of public schools.
