One of my students made a beautiful book cover using Bernat yarn.

I am an English teacher at a public high school. We started teaching from a new English book this year. I stressed the importance of book covers to protect the books. I told my students that they had three days to cover their book with either a book cover that they purchased or one that they made. Each student that had the book covered by the fourth day of class would receive three extra credit points. Each student that did not have their book covered within a week would lose a point on their first exam, and they would lose an additional point each day until the book was covered. On the fourth day of class, I asked the students to come up to my desk one at a time. I had my gradebook open so I could readily record the extra points. One young girl presented a book cover that was beautiful, to say the least. She had crocheted a cover for her book, using Bernat yarn. It was very colorful, and she had created a unique pattern. She had obviously put a lot of time and effort into the book cover. Since she went above and beyond, I couldn’t help but think she deserved more than the kids who showed up with stretchy bookcovers from Wal-Mart or paper grocery bags. I gave her two additional extra points.
